Daniel John Kelley

Daniel John Kelley is a playwright, opera nerd, and Brooklyn native.

His plays include “Wall, Ball, Summer And Fall (A Coney Island Adventure)”, “Show Me A Rose (Or Leave Me Alone)”,  ”Bulba”, “Love, Death and Vengeance: A Comedy”, “The Conveniences of Modern Living” (co-written with Emily Plumb), “Sharon Is My Name” (adapted from “The Merchant of Venice”) and “The Legend of Sunshine” (with music by Nick Moore). His work has been produced in NYC in the NY International Fringe Festival and by The Mirror Repertory Company, Mainspring Collective, The Gallery Players, The American Globe Theatre and The New York Theatre Experiment. Outside NYC, his plays have been performed in Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, as well as abroad in Dublin, Ireland by the Painted Filly Theatre, and in Nepal and Australia. Daniel is the creator of the children’s theatre series “Monster Literature”, performing frequently around NYC.

His current projects include the book and lyrics to a new musical comedy adventure with composer Nick Moore, centering around the rise of modern man out of the ravages of the 14th century bubonic plague, and the book to a rock musical with composer Russ Kaplan and lyricist Sara Wordsworth (”In Transit”), about a young Minnesotan mom who locks her teenage daughter in a closet, and goes to high school in her place.

He is presently an MFA playwriting candidate at Hunter College, studying with Tina Howe.
